Xhawula NPC announces new aquatic centre with state-of-the-art 50-metre pool
Pietermaritzburg, South Africa – In a ground-breaking partnership, renowned pool…
In the remote community of Wadeye, Myrtha Pools made all the difference in renovating and helping to reopen the public swimming pool in one of Australia’s most isolated and remote locations, where aquatic refurbishment is often challenging and expensive.
The project was completed in November 2023 in record time: within three weeks, the pool was successfully and smoothly renovated. Wadeye is a perfect example of the unique advantages of RenovAction Technology, which renews old and obsolete structures and returns them to pristine conditions in a sustainable way, even in the most unforgiving circumstances.
In addition, Myrtha Technology offers excellent flexibility in design options and the opportunity to customize the structure according to specific requirements. The refurbishment works directed by Myrtha extend beyond the pool to the associated mechanical room elements and the installation of lighting and security systems.
For the Wadeye swimming pool, the RenovAction project integrated the installation of the Myrtha Skin system (completed by Blueprint Aquatics). This exclusive material, combining stainless steel and PVC lamination into one discrete building element distributed in coils, made it possible to transform the tank into a 100 percent stainless steel pool. The new and improved vessel carries with it the advantages of the Myrtha White membrane, perfect for waterproofing while also offering exceptional clarity and visibility.
The application of these combined technologies significantly reduces the time required for this kind of aquatic intervention. The community is receiving a new, fully warranteed and durable pool tank. Thanks to their modular technologies, Myrtha stainless steel pools offer shorter construction times compared to concrete pools, which is particularly valuable in remote areas that require speedy installation for economic or civic reasons. In the Wadeye area, for example, quick installation was important for its social impact in terms of well-being, health and safety. According to reports by the non-profit association Royal Life Saving Society Australia, swim instruction in this community is essential as it greatly reduces the risks of drowning. Thanks to Myrtha, the pool renovation was completed within just three weeks.
With respect to costs, the modular Myrtha technology – whether new or RenovAction – has considerable advantages over a traditional concrete pool because it overcomes several of the challenges brought by supply and install in remote areas. These include practical matters such as the availability of local concrete production or other construction support, such as trucks for material delivery, and large crews to complete the site work. For the community of Wadeye, rebuilding a concrete pool simply wasn’t a viable option due to the high costs associated with that approach. Projects here are often built at night in order to avoid high heat, which creates the need for additional supervision and increased risk for the site. Another benefit to Myrtha in this setting: the pool components maintain consistent quality standards, while in the traditional construction process the quality always relies heavily on the individual installer and supplier.
Thanks to the exceptional strength and durability of stainless steel, the lifespan of the Myrtha structure is significantly longer than concrete tanks. The Myrtha basin comes with a renewed single-source warranty of 25 years, though its actual lifespan extends well beyond this period.
As far as maintenance is concerned, the smooth surface of stainless steel pools makes them significantly easier to clean and maintain compared to concrete pools. In contrast, concrete pools typically come with a 1 to 3-year warranty and require expensive and demanding maintenance with a need of resurfacing every 5 to 7 years due to the cracks, often leading to longer downtimes.
Lastly, it is important to underline the environmental advantages of Myrtha RenovAction, which plays a crucial role in interventions where there is a general lack of resources. Myrtha Pools is often selected for its energy efficiency: the thermal properties of stainless steel help maintaining water temperature more effectively than traditional pools, and their structure typically requires less water for both initial filling and ongoing maintenance.
