Xhawula NPC announces new aquatic centre with state-of-the-art 50-metre pool
Pietermaritzburg, South Africa – In a ground-breaking partnership, renowned pool…
The superlative FMC Natatorium in the Chicago suburb of Westmont, Illinois, earns its introduction to a national swimming audience this week as the TYR Pro Swim Series pays a visit March 2-5.
The Myrtha pools inside FMC Natatorium are quickly becoming familiar to Midwestern aquatics devotees, as the facility has already hosted the Illinois high school boys and girls state championships as well as the USA club swimming senior and age group state championships.
But this meet promises a much wider audience. The TYR Pro Swim Series is sanctioned by USA Swimming and is viewed by many as the first major opportunity to prepare for the FINA World Championships to be held in Budapest, Hungary this summer. So swim fans figure to be delighted by the field, which is slated to include many household names in American swimming – including Katie Ledecky, Caleb Dressel, Ryan Murphy, Michael Andrew and Lilly King. Coverage of the meet will be streamed ‘live’ on the Olympic Channel.
A total of about 400 swimmers are expected to compete in the state-of-the-art Myrtha competition pool configured for long-course racing. It features our Classic Competition gutter, along with memorable Myrtha track start blocks composed of sleek molded fiberglass and adorned with custom black and metallic silver paint, as selected by FMC.
“It was a dream to build a quality venue,” said Dave Krotiak, FMC Aquatic’s head coach and director of facility, events and programming. “And now we’re seeing it come into play.”
The meet begins Wednesday evening with the women’s and men’s 1,500-meter freestyle and concludes with five events on Saturday. Event schedule and ticket information is available at www.fmcnatatorium.org/tyrpro.
