Club Natació Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

Club Natació Barcelona (CNB), always a leading force in the promotion of swimming and water polo on the Iberian Peninsula, is renewing its trust in Myrtha Pools. Founded in 1907, the club has its roots in the heart of Barceloneta, a remarkable location that has reflected its historical, cultural and social value for more than a century.

The relationship between Myrtha Pools and the CNB also goes back a long way. A spirit of trust has been maintained throughout the process of modernization and renovation that the club has decided to undertake. Myrtha’s work was divided into two phases: the renovation of the two existing pools and the construction of three new pools.

In the indoor area, Myrtha modernized the Olympic pool used for the 2003 FINA World Championships and built a springboard diving pool, making the CNB one of the most highly regarded aquatic centres in Catalonia for training in all Olympic disciplines.

The outdoor area of the club has undergone the most dramatic change, with a children’s learning pool and another for swimming and water polo added. The learning pool, which is defined by its shallow depth (1.2m), has been fitted with a non-slip membrane and LED lighting. The pool for the club’s water polo teams is equipped with competitive fittings and, thanks to its 25m width and removable headwalls with starting blocks, can be used for cross-course swimming as needed.

The outdoor pools are open 365 days a year and feature a night cover system and a hybrid solar/photovoltaic system to heat the water that minimizes energy use and environmental impact.

To complete the outdoor area, Myrtha has also redesigned the saltwater pool, which now features CNB’s historic logo on the bottom and is filled with filtered Mediterranean water.

The full picture at CNB is one of cooperative innovation as this outstanding aquatic centre deftly moves forward toward an exciting new future.
