Lazdynai swimming centre

Vilnius, Lithuania

Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, has a new sports centre that will be a defining facility for the entire region. The Lazdynai sports facility offers a full range of competitive development across various aquatic disciplines and is one of the most modern aquatic facilities in the Baltic states. The project saw Myrtha Pools involved in the construction of both an Olympic swimming pool and one dedicated to diving, with both approved to host international competitions.

The main pool, built using Myrtha technology, is equipped with 20 Myrtha Track Start blocks and a movable floor, making it suitable for hosting elite international swimming competitions as well as shallow-water activities such as learn-to-swim instruction for toddlers.

The diving pool features platforms up to 10 metres high. The vessel is made of Myrtha modular steel structure and has been equipped with the Myrtha Air Safety Cushion, which reduces the risk of injury as athletes enter the water. This special diving pool can also be converted into a pool for water activities such as aqua fitness thanks to a movable bottom that can reduce the depth from over 5 metres to almost zero.

The sports facility, which can accommodate up to 1,200 people, also has a fitness area and a wellness area.

The Lazdynai Aquatics Centre project was created not only for international events, but also to grow future generations of athletes in the Baltic country, as Vilnius’ vice-mayor said at the opening: “I hope that more than one generation of youngsters, and future champions, will grow up in the facility, as there will be exceptional coaches like Giedrius Titenis and Zilvinas Ovsiukas next to them.”

The facility is also a centre for the development of the Lithuanian Swimming Federation’s programmes.
