The Splash, University of Miami

Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, Virginia Key Campus, Biscayne Bay

For unprecedented, inventive design, look no further than The Splash, the University of Miami’s Marine and Atmospheric Sciences research facility. Built on the gorgeous (but ever-shifting) sands of Biscayne Bay, this innovative Myrtha Scientific Dive Training Pool had many obstacles to overcome throughout its design and construction process. But when it comes to pools, there’s no puzzle we can’t solve – not a complex dewatering process; not discovering an extra, ‘unknown’ foundation beneath the site; nothing. One of the few facilities of its kind in the world, this now-complete 75’ by 50’ training pool is a testament to Myrtha planning and determination, as well as our small contribution to the scientific discoveries of the future. May the next generation of marine biologists use it well!
