Budapest 2017 - XVII FINA World Championships

This summer, Budapest, one of the most charming city crossed by Danube river, became the capital of swimming!

In fact, after almost one year from Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, FINA Swimming World Championships 2017 took place from 14 to 30 of July exactly in Katinka Hosszu and Laszlo Cseh homeland.

Balatonfüred and Budapest welcomed the XVII edition of FINA Swimming World Championships and for two weeks they were the arena where the top athletes of aquatic sports gave to all fans 17 days of thrilling emotions and amazing challenges: all the swim stars hit the scenes in swimming, open water swimming, synchro, waterpolo and diving competitions.

At this great occasion, Myrtha Pools completed 2 temporary pools: a warm up and a competition for synchro swimming.
The material of the two temporary pools starring the Championship were already in Budapest since beginning of 2017. During these last few months indeed, Myrtha Pools completed a 33x25x2 m pool and a 25x25x3 m.
The two pools were installed few months before the Championship in two different area of the city to compensate the lack of facilities available for athletes training to get ready for July’s challenges.
In fact, many of the existing pools in Budapest, were closed for maintenance and Myrtha Pools only managed to give the ideal solution.
Thanks to the fast track installation pace, hallmark of Myrtha Technology, the company has been able to deliver to city of Budapest and athletes the appropriate location to gear up for such a special event.

At the end of April then, the two pools were dismantled and temporarily re-installed in the Városliget city park, UNESCO heritage, home to the synchro swimming competitions.

The pools signed by Myrtha for FINA Swimming World Championships 2017 were a training size 50x25x3 m and a competition size 30x25x3 m.

Myrtha Pools signed also a temporary pool for high diving: a circular structure of 15 m diameter and 5.85 m depth, installed at Batthyány Square. The location was a really special one: an amazing view from the Danube sides, overlooking the Parliament, two of the most beautiful Budapest bridges and Buda Castle. This special Myrtha swimming pool laied on a custom-made platform – designed for the event – and was a unique solution with no parallel examples in the whole history of the company.

The high-diving pool represented  for Myrtha an important challenge both in terms of the engineering and technology applied, as well as in terms of installation. In terms of design, the system developed by Myrtha Pools was specially engineered at the occasion to allow for a self-supporting structure, with a huge depth and beyond any common standard.

The dismantling of the pools will happen at the end of the event and a new, permanent, installation in other facilities will follow shortly.
