In the heart of Porta Venezia, one of Milan's most vibrant and characterful neighbourhoods, Hotel Calimala carries a storied past.
The spaces welcoming guests today were, from the 1960s onwards, the acclaimed showroom of Jannelli & Volpi, an international landmark for wallcovering culture and interior design. It is a heritage that architect Alex Meitlis chose to honour through a philosophy of Total Design: every element, from furnishings to artworks, conceived to engage organically with the building's original volumes. The result is a luxury art hotel where past and present do not merely coexist; they converse.
It is within this spirit of creative continuity that the sixth-floor rooftop pool was conceived: not a mere amenity, but the culminating expression of an aesthetic journey that unfolds from the lobby to the Milanese skyline.

Long, theatrical, poised above the city: the Hotel Calimala pool is conceived as an architecture of water. Its marble-effect lining echoes the refinement of the interiors, while the infinity overflow edge, clad in fine white laminam, introduces an unmistakably contemporary note, creating a seamless visual flow between the water's surface and the urban horizon beyond.
Delivering a pool of this calibre on the sixth-floor terrace of a historic building demands far more than aesthetic vision; it demands engineering. This is where the expertise of Myrtha Pools proved decisive.
The flexibility and modularity of Myrtha's modular stainless-steel technology made it possible to realise this rooftop pool without compromising the building's architecture or aesthetic integrity. Relocating all technical equipment to the hotel's basement level was not simply an engineering decision. It was a guest experience decision, eliminating acoustic interference entirely and ensuring the tranquillity that a property of this standing demands.
The rooftop of Hotel Calimala is now one of those rare spaces where luxury, design and engineering achieve perfect equilibrium. A Milanese terrace equal to the city's own sophistication, and another defining entry in the international portfolio of Myrtha Pools.
